[Michael Cortez, PE] Michael Cortez, PE
Principal
Civil / Structural Group Manager

Michael has over 20 years of experience as a civil/structural engineer specializing in the design and construction management of multi-disciplinary public works projects. He has extensive design experience on large-diameter pipelines and pump stations, including miscellaneous wastewater treatment facilities. His experience also includes seismic retrofit of public facilities, groundwater remediation, street utilities, roadway design, subdivision and tract improvements, and land development, and hydrology and hydraulic analysis of sanitary and storm sewers, and subdivision and tract improvements. As District Engineer of a local Bay Area sanitation agency, Michael was responsible for master planning and implementation of all capital improvement projects. Interestingly, after completing two graduate degrees [a Master’s in structural engineering and an MBA], he began his career at AGS in the 1980s and left for military service. After gaining 20 years of progressively responsible military, civil, and public sector experience, he returned to AGS in 2007 to head up the firm’s civil/structural engineering efforts, including airport and transit structures and facilities.
