Point Molate Navy Fuel Depot is located in the Potrero Hills near Richmond, California, along the northeastern shore of San Francisco Bay.
Client: US Navy/City of Richmond
Location: San Francisco Bay, CA
In 1942, the Navy purchased Point Molate for use as a World War II fuel supply and storage depot. Most of the fuel was kept in 20 underground concrete tanks, with a capacity of over 40 million gallons. The facility was officially closed in 1998, and the City of Richmond is in the process of taking it over, once clean-up issues are resolved. Under another environmental contract with the US Navy, AGS as the prime consultant addressed in-place/without filling closure of the underground structures that could result in a $10 million savings to the City of Richmond. Proposed uses for the site include a residential area, refinery security buffer, and development as a casino resort complex.
As a subconsultant to CDM Federal, AGS was tasked to perform groundwater sampling beginning in 2003 under Contract N68711-00-004, Multi-Media Environmental Compliance Studies and Other Support Services on Navy and Marine Corps Installations at Various Locations. Upon expiration of the CDM contract, prime responsibility for the same task was awarded to another firm in 2006, who elected to have AGS continue to perform the quarterly sampling to assure consistency in the groundwater program.
