Terminal 1 and Boarding Area B were originally constructed in the early 1960’s and renovated in the 1980’s. The AGS joint venture with Parsons Brinkerhoff was selected to provide Project Management Support Services, which includes the management, coordination and oversight of the associated Design-Build contract for the $477 million New Boarding Area B Reconstruction Project. New Boarding Area B will include passenger circulation space for access to the aircraft gates, twenty-four (24) gates with holding rooms for domestic and potentially some international flights, new passenger loading bridges, a baggage handling system, and concession areas.

When fully completed in 2024, T1 will elevate SFO’s standard of providing a world-class, environmentally friendly travel experience and is expected to meet or exceed the award-winning standards of Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 Boarding Area E. T1 is anticipated, at minimum, to receive an environmental LEED© Gold certification. Boarding Area B was the first airport project in the world to achieve LEED v4 Platinum certification.

Boarding Area B was recognized with a 2022 Best Projects Award from Engineering News-Record, Airport/Transit category - ENR California region and a 2022 Award of Merit in the Aviation Category from the Design Build Institute of America.
