To accommodate growth in passenger traffic and airline demand for gates, SFO embarked on a $383 million project to renovate Terminal 2 into a state-of-the-art domestic terminal. The project involved renovations to Terminal 2 and Boarding Area D to convert the former ten-gate international terminal into a fourteen-gate domestic terminal. The project included new passenger loading bridges with aircraft support systems, new inbound and outbound baggage handling systems, structural seismic upgrades to Boarding Area D as well as Concourse and architectural improvements. The project covered approximately 640,000 SF, including 30,793 SF of retail development.
