The Sunol Valley Water Treatment Plant [SVWTP] Improvements Project was a critical project in the SFPUC’s 10-year Capital Improvements Program [CIP] and one of the largest and most complex projects undertaken by the Utilities Engineering Bureau in recent years.
Phase I of the SVWTP Improvement Project increased the capacity and reliability of the existing plant. The improvements included the construction of a new flow distribution vault, flash mix chamber, chemical feed building, and office and lab facilities. Seismic upgrade of existing structures was also performed. The project included siting and preliminary design of a new WTP and treated water storage reservoir [TWR]. A total of four alternative sites within the Sunol Valley were proposed for the location of a new WTP or reservoir or both.
AGS, as a joint venture partner, provided the geotechnical engineering for Phase I, in addition to being responsible for civil design; preparing plans and specifications for site layout grading, roadways, drainage, large diameter process piping and yard piping.
